In case you have not noticed; I have many guilty pleasures and enjoy low brow entertainment. Barbarian films are just one of my favorite sub-genres. What? What the heck are Barbarian films? No, they are not a type of gay porn. In 1982 the vastly unappreciated action film Conan the Barbarian was released in theaters and became a big hit. It launched the carrier of Arnold Schwarzenegger. I honestly consider it an epic; and I should not wonder why film school's rejected me.
In the wake of Conan's success, countless movies came afterwords copying it's plot and style...and yes, these were bloody, sexy, violent and kind of plotless...everything they criticized Conan for. Well, yes, I still love these flicks, and admit they are they far from Oscar material. Most are graduates from the "so bad it's good school." Some were pretty good. Also, plenty of films that just took place in medieval times or ancient, forgotten worlds came out in the eighties too.
